Park East Corridor Enterprise Live/Work Lofts Architectural Concepts
![]()
Location
City of Milwaukee Client Gorman & Company Project The Enterprise Live/Work Lofts, close to the banks of the Milwaukee River, create a significant development in the emerging Park East neighborhood. PDI worked closely with the developer, Gorman & Co., to develop the schematic architectural design for the housing community. Living and Working Downtown The lofts provide flexible live/work spaces for entrepreneurs and creative residents interested in starting up businesses that require spacious work areas. The live/work lofts are a good fit with the overall redevelopment plans for the Park East Corridor prepared for the City by PDI. Mixed Uses The four-story complex has 85 units, along with shared studio space, conference rooms, a business center, fitness facility, and movie theater. Design Encourages Social Activity PDI designed the lofts with diverse living options, including vertical row houses. The building includes a two–story internal "street" providing a social hub for the community. The eye–catching design invites pedestrians to enter the building. PDI created the building to sustain a high urban density. Interior spaces were designed to encourage social interaction. Areas for retail enterprise are easily accessible and the facades feature lively construction materials and colors. Walkable Street The footprint of the Enterprise Lofts reinforces the street edge along a major thoroughfare that enhances the character of neighborhood. The horizontal and vertical dimensions of the architecture are relatively modest. An internal court, with surface parking, offers diverse retail opportunities in bordered by the inviting facades of the Lofts. The project was completed and occupied in 2006. |
