East Scale Model

Client
City of Milwaukee, WI Project To promote discussion on the redevelopment of Milwaukee's Park East Freeway Corridor, PDI constructed a three-dimensional architectural model measuring 9 feet by 16 feet. The model depicts a section of the Milwaukee River and 85 city blocks in downtown Milwaukee. Model Promoted Public Awareness The model was displayed in the City Hall Rotunda, and other locations, for public viewing and discussion. Construction Details Natural basswood buildings represent existing conditions, while white-stained blocks represent potential construction within the 60-acre Park East Redevelopment District. The model is designed so all city blocks can be easily removed as the project area changes. In constructing the model, PDI staff used a series of wood layers to reflect the topography of the area. In addition laser cut wood trees were positioned along new boulevards and open spaces. Press Conference The model was the focal point of a press conference run jointly by both the City and County officials. In addition to constructing the model, PDI wrote a Master Plan and Regulating Plan with codes for new development. |
