Project
Overall policies toward growth and eight neighborhood-specific plans were major components of an extensive update of Glenview's Comprehensive Plan. Glenview is located north of Chicago and is experiencing the impact of regional growth.

Neighborhood Plans
Eight detailed neighborhood plans were developed which included specific recommendations for each area concerning traffic, redevelopment, preservation of neighborhood character and other issues. The Village was interested in enhancing its high quality neighborhoods as well as directing the redevelopment of transitional areas.

Development Impacts
The Village Plan includes overall policies on development due to unprecented regional growth, as well as the Village's recent development of a 1,121-acre site which was formerly a Naval Air Station. The community voiced concerns about the impact of development on schools, parks, traffic, and safety. In addition, PDI prepared redevelopment and annexation policies.

Public Participation
Extensive public participation was key to the planning process. PDI attended regular meetings and worked closely with Village staff and the Comprehensive Plan Committee. PDI's public participation efforts included:

• 38 confidential stakeholder interviews
• A survey mailed to 23,500 households
• 20 meetings with the community planning committee
• 9 neighborhood meetings
• 5 Village Plan Commission meetings
• 2 Community-wide open houses
